Because of this, high phosphate concentrations, whether sporadic or chronic, must be avoided. Phosphāt-E provides a quick solution to high phosphate concentrations by binding reactive ('free') phosphate forming molecules and making it unavailable for biological processes. The resulting inert phosphate compounds (a particulate) will be permanently removed by mechanical filtration and/or skimming. This method can be used on an as-needed and/or continuous basis to maintain phosphates at levels that cannot be measured in a marine aquarium.

Although Phosphāt-E provides a functional solution to potential phosphate problems, it should not be seen as an alternative to appropriate and sensitive aquarium management. Aquaria with extremely low or unmeasurable reactive phosphate concentrations often appear clearer than those in which phosphate is allowed to remain in high concentrations. Feeding aquarium inhabitants carefully, limiting the use of organic-based supplements, using a high-quality synthetic salt mix, and performing regular water changes and topping up with purified water are all important aspects of phosphate control. Additional methods for limiting phosphate are the cultivation of macro-algae in the system to naturally consume phosphate and other substances and/or the use of an efficient and well-maintained skimmer.

Notes: Phosphate tests may show false positives in the reading after treatment; this is a result of the chemical mechanism by which phosphate tests operate and does not indicate that the product has failed to perform its intended function. The higher the percentage of bound phosphate removed by filtration, the more accurate the test reading will be.

Instructions and Guidelines

The aquarium may become slightly turbid when using this product; the turbidity is momentary and will dissipate.

BeginnersDetermine the concentration of phosphate in the aquarium before first use by means of an accurate test. Add the product to the aquarium near the inlet of the mechanical filter or skimmer at a maximum rate of 5 ml per 75.7 litres (20 gallons) of water per day for every ppm of phosphate in the system. When used in this way, 250 ml treats up to 3785 litres (1000 gallons). Add weekly at the same dosage to maintain reactive phosphate concentration within unmeasurable values.

ExpertsDetermine the concentration of phosphate in the aquarium before first use by an accurate test. Each ml of Brightwell Aquatics Phosphāt-E will remove 1 ppm reactive phosphate in 15.142 litres (4 gallons) of water. The result is an inert particulate that is permanently removed by mechanical filtration and skimming. To maximise the rate of phosphate removal, Phosphāt-E should be administered into the aquarium at the inlet of the mechanical filter or skimmer. Doing so will allow the resulting inert particulate matter to be effectively removed from the aquarium. Particulate matter not removed by filtration will remain dinerte and bound phosphate will always remain unreactive under normal aquarium conditions. The maximum dosage that should not be exceeded is 1ml per 15.142 litres (4 gallons) per day, as too rapid a decrease in phosphate could irritate sensitive corals, particularly if phosphate concentrations have remained relatively high over a long period of time (e.g. 3-6 weeks). The concentration of available phosphate in marine aquaria should not exceed 0.05 ppm for any period of time; available phosphate in the presence of other substances may indirectly negatively affect the appearance of a beautiful marine aquarium. Should corals or other invertebrates appear to react badly to the addition of this product, it may be a sign that the reactive phosphate has been removed too quickly; decrease the dosage of 50% and continue treatment until the phosphate concentration appears to be unmeasurable.

Attention: harmful if ingested.
