Technical Background

Brightwell Aquatics Restōr is a complex of amino acids and fatty acids derived from marine fish and crustaceans; it is a strong source of EPA, DHA, and other Omega-3 fatty acids, as well as natural pigments. Restōr has been specifically formulated for the care of corals that have recently been moved to a new aquarium and are adjusting to the new lighting, have recently been exposed to high temperatures for a prolonged period (which induces the expulsion of symbiotic zooxanthellae, a phenomenon known as bleaching), or have suffered tissue damage due to cuttings or unwanted passage of other aquarium inhabitants. Research has shown that during bleaching, some corals obtain most of their nutrients by catching prey rather than by relying on zooxanthellae, until the zooxanthellae themselves are adapted to the change in light or re-established in the coral tissues. Although Restōr's content does not directly reverse the bleaching process, it effectively provides the nutrients required by corals to potentially survive during the period when the zooxanthellae are re-establishing or regaining; there are no studies showing that corals that have undergone bleaching recover with this product, however, it has generally been observed that corals that obtain the required nutrients (through active feeding) during bleaching have a greater chance of recovery. Using Restōr to fortify plankton of a suitable size for targeted feeding of the oranism that is to be fed is an extremely effective method of supplying these important substances.

Restōr does not require refrigeration, however, storage in a cool place away from light will prolong the effectiveness of the vitamins. Refrigeration will maximise the shelf life of the product.

Instructions and Guidelines

Shake the product well before use. Turn off the skimmer and other forms of mechanical filtration before feeding Restōr-enriched food in the aquarium, and wait 10-15 minutes after feeding before turning them on again. 

Targeted feeding (recommended)Targeted feeding can be carried out using a piece of rigid aerator tubing, a plastic syringe, a pipette, a dropper or a similar tool; dispense 5 ml of the product into a small container and aspirate part of it into the chosen tool, then slowly release its contents 5-10 cm from the organism to be fed, upstream of the current. Repeat this operation as long as deemed necessary. Rinse the part of the feeding tool both externally and internally before using it again for aspiration from the bottle; failure to do so will contaminate the product, accelerating its decomposition. Restōr can be used as a food additive. To do this, place the food in a clean container, add 5ml of Restōr and allow the food 5-10 minutes to soak in, at which point feed as directed.

Dispersal administrationDose 5ml of product for every 189 litres (50 gallons) of water in the entire system (aquarium, sump, etc.) in an area of strong water movement every 2-3 days for the first four weeks of use, thereafter the dosage can be increased as required.

Note: Do not add more than 5ml per 189 litres (50 gallons) per day of liquid food suspension for the first four weeks of use; thereafter the dosage can be gradually increased as desired. Starting at a lower dosage and gradually increasing over time will allow the biological filtration of the aquarium to adapt to the increase in nutrients and prevent a deterioration in water quality. This product works best with targeted feeding of invertebrates in the aquarium; by doing so, most of the complexes it contains can be consumed by the desired organism rather than ending up in the filter media or indirectly affecting water quality (as is often the case with dispersal feeding).
