The Manufacturer Informs:

The Hanna Freshwater Alkalinity Checker is a good compromise between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits have limited accuracy and resolution because they are based on the distinction of colour differences perceived by the human eye. Professional-type instrumentation integrates a light source consisting of an LED or tungsten lamp with a filter and a light detector to accurately determine absorbance and ion concentration. Professional instruments offer greater resolution and accuracy, but can cost hundreds of euros. The Hanna Freshwater Alkalinity Checker uses a fixed wavelength LED source and a silicon photocell to provide the accuracy of professional instrumentation at the affordable price of a chemical test kit.

The Checker HC (portable colourimeter) HI775 is a simple, accurate and convenient instrument for measuring alkalinity. Alkalinity indicates the amount of alkaline substances (carbonates, bicarbonates and hydroxides) contained in water. The alkaline compounds contained in water act as pH adjusters. This means that an adequate degree of alkalinity ensures that the pH can be kept virtually constant if small amounts of acid or base are added. Alkalinity is important in drinking water treatment, where alkalinity values determine which chemicals are used and in what quantities, as well as the protection of the entire drinking water and distribution process. When analysing samples in which chlorine is present, the chlorine remover HI93755-53 can be used to avoid any possibility of chlorine interference.
