The Manufacturer Informs:

The HI98319 Pocket Sea Water Salinity Meter is a digital tester designed specifically for saltwater aquaria. Display results in parts per thousand (ppt), practical salinity units (PSU) or specific weight (S.G.). With an amperometric conductivity probe, it provides accurate and reliable measurements in a robust and waterproof device.

  • Multi-level LCD display
  • Exposed temperature probe
  • Easy two-button operation
  • Automatic temperature compensation
  • Automatic calibration
  • Automatic switch-off
  • Long-life batteries
  • Durable case

The salinity tester has a large multi-level LCD display showing ppt, PSU or specific gravity and temperature. The temperature can be set to display in °C or °F. An external temperature sensor allows fast measurements with automatic temperature compensation. The LCD screen has stability and calibration indicators. A battery percentage level indicator is displayed at start-up to alert the user of the remaining battery power available.

Salinity readings are taken by a graphite ammeter probe that resists oxidation, providing accurate and repeatable measurements. The use of graphite also reduces the polarisation effect common with testers using two stainless steel pins.

Calibration is performed by pressing the calibration button. Once in calibration mode, the tester is immersed in the 35.00 ppt calibration standard. When the standard value is recognised and stability is reached, the instrument will automatically accept and store the value.

Setup options include an adjustable automatic shutdown where the instrument can be set to turn off after 8 minutes, 60 minutes or disabled. To access the setup mode, the user presses a button located in the battery compartment.

The HI98319 waterproof salinity tester provides a simple, accurate and cost-effective way to determine the salt concentration in saltwater aquaria.

Salinity of Sea Water by Conductivity

  • All salinity measurements are displayed on the large multi-level LCD and are calculated with a conductivity measurement based on known tables including international oceanographic tables for ppt readings.

Choice of Units of Measurement

  • Display results in parts per thousand (ppt), practical salinity unit (PSU) or specific gravity (S.G.).

Automatic temperature compensation

  • Conductivity measurements are very sensitive to temperature variations. The HI98319 has an external temperature sensor for rapid salinity measurement with temperature compensation.

Graphite Sensor

  • It reduces the polarisation effects common to testers using stainless steel, and does not oxidise, resulting in a reliable and accurate reading.

Automatic calibration

Automatic switch-off

Long-life batteries

Plastic case

  • The 35.00 ppt solution is used both for calibration and to automatically recognise when the instrument is in calibration mode
  • Selectable between 8 minutes, 60 minutes, and disabled.
  • Approximately 100 hours of continuous use
  • The HI98319 comes complete with instrument and 35.00 ppt calibration bags, all in a durable plastic case.
