Aquaria Tech informs you:

l Calcium is the main constituent of calcareous algae, the skeleton of hard corals. Calcium also performs many biologically important functions.

Often too low a calcium value retards and inhibits the growth of corals and calcareous algae. In nature, seawater contains 400-450mg/l calcium and this is the value we should aim for in our tanks. For a stable aquarium environment, fluctuations in calcium content should not be more than 15 mg/l. This means that a calcium test should be able to measure these fluctuations. In a healthy aquarium, corals, beneficial calcareous algae and other organisms grow and multiply, and this causes a depletion of the calcium level. In order to prevent this, early action must be taken and therefore a reliable test is indispensable. Profi Test Calcium detects the calcium content in 10 mg/l intervals. The colorimetric scale is very precise and facilitates the detection of small, but extremely important fluctuations in the concentration of this element. Salifert is the only test kit that offers the necessary accuracy and precision.

Sufficient for about 50 to 100 measurements

Instructions:

1) Using the 2 ml syringe, place 2 ml. of the water to be tested into the test tube. (If you want to perform more tests but with lower accuracy use only 1 ml. Of water)

2) Add a teaspoon of Ca-1. (Low accuracy1/2 teaspoon)

3) Add 8 drops of Ca-2 to the water in the test tube and shake slowly for 10 seconds (low precision use 4 drops instead of 8)

4) Screw the small cylindrical cone tightly onto the 1 ml syringe. Fill this syringe with Ca-3 (make sure that the end of the cone is always immersed in Ca-3) until the lower end of the black piston is exactly 1.00ml. Some air will be present above the piston but will not affect the test result.

5) Drop Ca-3 into the water in the test tube. Shake for a second or two. Continue until the colour of the water changes from a pink-red to a strong blue.

6) Hold the syringe in front of you with the cone pointing upwards and look at where the high end of the black piston prte is. The syringe is graduated in 0.01 ml intervals. Read the calcium value with the help of the reading table or calculated as follows. Mg/l Ca=(1-value read at stage F)*500

If you have chosen low precision, multiply the result by two. Seawater in nature contains 425/450 mg/l of Calcium

Attention: Reagent Ca-2 contains calcium hydroxide, which is very irritating to skin and eyes. In case of contact with skin rinse thoroughly under water. In case of contact with the eyes, rinse with plenty of water and consult a doctor. In case of ingestion, consult a doctor immediately.
